Starting with Windows 10 Insider Build 14901, Microsoft would be sending out new notifications within File Explorer to educate users about Windows 10’s features. Here is how the notifications would look like.
Revoke Microsoft Account Info Access Permissions for Apps and ServicesIf you’re not going to use the new features (Cortana integration, Ink) of the modern Sticky Notes app, you can get the classic desktop version (StickNot.exe) after upgrading to the Windows 10 anniversary update (v1607) build.
If the C:\Windows.old…Windows\System32 directory is still intact, simply copy “StikyNot.exe” to your Windows\System32 folder and create a shortcut to it on your desktop. The program still works in Windows 10 version 1607.
Over time, you may have given permissions for a number of third-party applications or services to access your Microsoft account information. If you no longer use some of those apps or services, here is how to revoke Microsoft account info access rights for those apps.
How to Use Your Free Windows 10 License After Changing Your PC’s HardwareOpen the Registry Editor by pressing Windows+R on your keyboard, typing “regedit” into the box, and pressing Enter. Navigate to the following key in the left sidebar:

To undo your change and restore Cortana in the future, you can just return here, locate the “AllowCortana” value, and set it to “1”.
You can now close the registry editor. You’ll have to sign out and sign back in or restart your computer before the change takes effect.
You Can Still Get Windows 10 for Free from Microsoft’s Accessibility SiteThe free Windows 10 license you receive is tied to your PC’s hardware. You’re still allowed to use Windows 10 on that same PC even after changing its hardware. Activating that license is easier than ever in Windows 10’s Anniversary Update.
The free upgrade offer is simple. To get Windows 10, you’ll just have to visit the “Windows 10 free upgrade for customers who use assistive technologies” page and download the upgrade tool. Like the previous free upgrade offer, this only works if your computer is currently running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. (If you’re using Windows 8, you can get a free upgrade to Windows 8.1 and then upgrade to Windows 10.)
How to Stop automatic driver updates on Windows 10Microsoft says a fix is in the works, offers temporary workaround that isn't very feasible
After a lot of anecdotal reports, Microsoft acknowledged there is a problem with the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 causing PCs to freeze up. However, it says the problem is isolated to a specific PC configuration.
In a Windows forum post, Microsoft claims the freezing issue is experienced only on computers with SSDs where apps are installed on a different drive than the one where Windows 10 is installed. The obvious workaround is to move all apps to the drive where Windows 10 is located, and the company actually recommends this.
“Microsoft has received a small number of reports of Windows 10 freezing after installing the Anniversary Update on systems with the operating system stored on a solid-state drive (SSD) and apps and data stored on a separate drive. This issue does not occur when starting Windows 10 in Safe Mode,” forum moderator Basith M wrote.
It’s better to simply uninstall the Anniversary Update than a dozen apps and wait for a fix.
Those with unlocked Windows Phones that support Windows 10 Mobile will be able to get the RTM version, Build 14393.67, starting today. (Those in the Windows Insider program on the Fast Ring already have Build 14393.67.) Carriers are in charge of when they'll release the update to those without unlocked devices.
Those include: Lumia Icon, 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, MCJ Madosma Q501 -- plus any newer phones like the Lumia 950 and 950XL which originally shipped with Windows 10 Mobile.
Webcam Issues in Windows 10 Anniversary UpdateAt the end of July, Google Chrome held over 50 percent of the world’s browser market share; Edge is at 5.09 percent, according to NetApplications. Microsoft clearly wants to lift that number. Locking down Cortana to use only Bing might be seen as the stick, but a rewards program like Microsoft Rewards is the carrot.
This problem was first perceived as a bug in the Anniversary Update, but it appears to be an intentional change in the Redstone 1 update. Microsoft seems to have dropped support for MJPEG or H264 encoding standards and moved towards YUY2 for performance. Webcams that use MJPEG or H264 would not work correctly after the Anniversary Update. Not sure if Microsoft is going to bring back support for those standards based on user feedback.
Microsoft leaked the golden keys that unlock Windows-powered tablets, phones and other devices sealed by Secure Boot – and is now scrambling to undo the blunder.
These skeleton keys can be used to install non-Redmond operating systems on locked-down computers. In other words, on devices that do not allow you to disable Secure Boot even if you have administrator rights – such as ARM-based Windows RT tablets – it is now possible to sidestep this block and run, say, GNU/Linux or Android.
What's more, it is believed it will be impossible for Microsoft to fully revoke the leaked keys.
And perhaps most importantly: it is a reminder that demands by politicians and crimefighters for special keys, which can be used by investigators to unlock devices in criminal cases, will inevitably jeopardize the security of everyone.
Microsoft's misstep was uncovered by two researchers, MY123 and Slipstream, who documented their findings here in a demoscene-themed writeup published on Tuesday. Slip believes Microsoft will find it impossible to undo its leak.

Apparently the KB3176934 update came with the Anniversary Upgrade I did yesterday...The latest came on Tuesday, when Microsoft rolled-out a cumulative patch for the Anniversary Update that broke PowerShell, its command line shell and scripting language. The notes accompanying the release suggest Microsoft knew the changes would stop several PowerShell features from working.
It's the most recent issue to emerge following the rollout of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which has triggered mystery freezing issues and broken USB-connected webcams.
Those two issues remain unresolved in Tuesday's update -- KB3176934 (OS Build 14393.82) --for Windows 10 version 1607, also known as the Anniversary Update.

My 32 bit laptop now has both a $Windows.~BT (512 MB) and $Windows.~WS (377 KB) folder:Warning: If you choose to delete the $WINDOWS.~BT folder on Windows 10, you won’t be able to downgrade to the previous build of Windows 10 or previous version of Windows your PC had installed. The option to roll your PC back at Settings > Update & Security > Recovery will vanish.
Windows should automatically delete these files to free up space after ten days in the Anniversary Update, or thirty days if your PC hasn’t upgraded to the Anniversary Update yet.

If you wish, you can transfer information from your old user profile to your new one. However, this action is not recommended, since a part of your old profile may be corrupt. With that in mind, to transfer your old bookmarks, copy the "Bookmarks.bak" file from the "Backup default" folder to your new "Default" folder. Once moved, rename the file from "Bookmarks.bak" to "Bookmarks" to complete the migration. All other browser data will remain in the "Backup default" folder, but you won't be able to transfer it to your new profile.
Windows 10 users had many good reasons to install the Anniversary Update at the beginning of August, even if most changes were incremental. Less loved were the handful of serious bugs that came with it, from breaking webcams to systemwide crashes when users plugged in e-readers. But its worst offense was freezing when users logged in on devices that put their operating system on one logical drive and app data on another. Maybe they know it will not work on older PC's?Just 34.5 percent of all PCs are running Windows 10 version 1607, aka the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, according to AdDuplex, maker of a Windows 10 SDK for third-party app makers. The majority, 59.9 percent, are still running Windows 10 version 1511, also known as the Fall Update.
On August 2, Microsoft said the Anniversary Update would be rolled out “in phases,” with newer machines receiving the update first. That presumably meant that Microsoft was providing the update to those PCs that would likely have the fewest issues updating. What’s surprising is how slowly Microsoft is pushing out the AU to older PCs. But there are two likely culprits: Microsoft, and businesses, who want to ensure the update doesn’t break their own apps.
24-bit Color in the Windows Console!Why this matters: The conservative approach may simply be an attempt to minimize problems that have already plagued users, such as an issue where PCs running the Windows 10 AU froze when their data was split between an SSD and a conventional hard drive. With Microsoft now giving you just 10 days to roll back to the previous build, some columnists warned enterprises to avoid it altogether. Still, platform fragmentation is already a concern for Microsoft, with its user base split between Windows XP, Windows 7, 8, and 10. A slow rollout divides its resources further.
But rather than just add a few more colors, or limit our console to a mere 256 colors, we’ve updated the Windows Console to support full, glorious 24-bit RGB true color!
This is actually a little tricky to demo since most Windows apps only support 16 colors at most whereas the Linux world has broadly supported 256 color terminals for a while now, and 24-bit color is becoming more established.

Yeah, we know. Ever since the Anniversary Update started rolling out, users have been reporting that their machines are hanging upon restart, and some are completely locking out mouse and keyboard input. All that before the freezing issue was officially documented.
As well as the freeze-specific solutions below, there are a few additional workarounds that seem to have been working for people, according to this Reddit thread – including disabling Secure Boot – but that's not appropriate (or effective) for everyone.

How to remove those Windows 10 ads again!It’s no secret that Windows 10’s stuffed with revenue-generating hooks for Microsoft, but I find the idea of a paid-for operating system shoving straight-up ads in my face distasteful, and disabled the Get Office ads and every other ad-related setting months ago. After a bit of poking and prodding, I discovered that beyond reinstalling the Get Office app that surfaces those notifications, the Anniversary Update also re-enabled Start menu and lock screen ads, essentially tossing my explicit choice to disable them out the window. And it did so without consent or even a notice that these changes were happening in the background.
