You just got out of school. Turned on your computer, then clicked the "connect to internet" button. Of course, your loading page is obviously set to NeoZones, the best QBasic site in the world. You then click the QBoard icon and wait for the server.com board to load up, about 20 minutes later. You read the posts. Then you hear a voice in your head, "hey, let's get a little action here". So you open up IRC (probably mIRC, downloaded at www.mirc.co.uk), connect to an EFNET server, then hop in #quickbasic. Where all the cool (kewl) people are. Then you talk, and stuff. You make jokes, and stuff. And you have fun in a fast fun frenzy of chatting! Check it out. I'm usually there as "tekky", or some variation on tekky when some jerk takes my nick. =(. See ya there! ========================================= Reviews ========================================= * Warrior of the ChiChi, review by Tek What is Majiko's latest creation in QBasic? (for those of you QuickBasic RPG's forum frequenters), an rpg that actually runs! Heeh. Seriously though, from the looks of things, I'd say that this game already does a little more than many out there. For a small download, you get a playable demo (Zelda style game, btw). You start out, talk to a guy in a urinal, and then go kill some stuff in a castle. (Oops, sorry, spoiled it for you). You can't die either! You just get negative HP. Complete with MIDI sound, enemies that walk around and you can bash ala the CTRL key (alright, goodbye INKEY$). To download, visit Majiko's site. http://www.geocities.com/area51/dimension/2545/ ========================================= Links in the Spotlight ========================================= * Pete's QBASIC Site Updated every day! (Well, basically every day, even though Pete sometimes updates just to say he didn't update... hrm, oh well, no one's perfect). At this site, you can find lots of stuff, a fairly active discussion forum, a nice files collection, a email/page/icq directory of people in the QBasic scene, lots of links, awards given out, and whatever else Pete decides to throw in. http://www.freeyellow.com/members5/petesqbsite/index.html * Wotsit's file format archive Writing that new QBasic .jpg loader and can't get any technical specs on it? Or perhaps a .zip extractor in C? Well never fear, Wotsit's is here! Many of you already know about Wotsit's, but if you don't, here's the scoop: get technical specs on any file format in existance (and I mean ANY). http://www.wotsit.org ========================================= News & Announcements ========================================= * Qlympics main event coming SOON! The '99 Qlympics main event is almost under way, be sure to stay up to date at http://www.sonicblue.com/Qlympics! * Want to promote your website? Go to the QBBE at Nemesis Software, http://members.xoom.com/nemesis_/ * January CodeX winners For the month of January, the goal was to make a program that would derive Roman numbers from Arabic style numbers. For instance, the number 9 would be converted to IX, and something like XI would be converted to 11. There were many different approaches to this, and the first place winner was Tim Kosta. For more information on the winning programs, and to download them, please visit the CodeX section of NeoZones.
