Here's mailing #5, bringing you the best and most up to date news on Pete's QBASIC Site. Neato. I still have 13 subscribers. That's all I have to say in this section. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2.0 - We've Completely Moved In! ----------------------------------------------------------- Yes, I have moved the whole site to Hypermart. No more Freeyellow. All my stuff is pretty much done. I have a lot of little quirks and imperfections on my site that I'll fix, and make two more sections and I'll be moved in completely! ----------------------------------------------------------- 3.0 - New Stuff ----------------------------------------------------------- New stuff for this next "period". A "Period" is the time between mailings. Editorials Section - A section where people write articles about happenings on the QBASIC scene. I will put things such as rants that people write, reviews of things other than fies, walkthroughs/tips for QBASIC games, FAQ lists, interviews...all kinds of stuff. This will not be released regularyly (like QB:TM), but just updated when I get stuff sent in. New Files Section - My old files section just plain sucked, and was never updated. I knew I needed to revamp it somehow, so I decided to start a whole new files section where I give full reviews of files, including a screenshot and a good and acdcurate rating system. This debuted about a week and a half ago with the XENO review, but Freeyellow deleted that three days later, so I decided to make more reviews and put them on Hypermart. I currently have seven reviews. Neato. People are very satisfied with this new format. Also, the old files sections are still up, but the links might be broken, and it sucks. Frame / Load Time - My site took so long to load before, so I decided to can the frame images for load time and browser compatibility. (You couldn't see the bottom third of links with 640*480 res, and they just fit in 800*600.) No eye candy, but it's better that way. Hits - My site has 4,230 hits right now. (1:12 EST, 3/14/99) We average between 20 and 30 hits a day, and around Saturdays, the hits go up a lot, and on Weekdays they drop. My site got 16 hits one day a couple weeks ago for a monthly low, and 50 hits in a day last week for the monthly high. The most hits we've ever had in a day is 94 - the same day that my site was 'In The Spotlight' on the QBT50. Submitting - Okay, we still have that annoying maxpages free form, but I'll be making one and be using Hypermart's CGI scripts to make a new and even better submit form. If you want to submit things, email them to me, or use the form. I suggest you email me. Anyways, I am still accepting the things I tok before, but we're in need of advanced tutorials (on the tougher QBASIC commands), and file reviews. (If you write one, you get credit.) Thanks in advance if you submit something! Freeyellow's Crash Means A Well Needed Revamp! - In Freeyellow's crash, I lost a good portion of my site. :( Well, it's a good thing that that happened. It caused me to get some decent server space, and do a huge revamp on my site, including load time, appearence and many other things. That's good. What We Lost - In Freyellow's crash, we lost all new stuff all the way back to December 21, 1998. That was 50% of my site. Of that 50%, I was able to retreive 60%, which means that I got back 30% of what I lost. My site has 80% of what it had before now, plus the 5-6% of new stuff I added. That means my site has about 18 / 20 of what I had before. The most crucial thing we lost was months of news. (About three months of which I can only get back about 20% of it.) That sucks. I also lost stuff here and there, like about thirty links, a months worth of survey results, many images and a couple other sections. Oh well. ----------------------------------------------------------- 4.0 - Updates ----------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 - Old News In the last week I've moved to Hypermart, fixed many sites, gave my site a big revamp, introduced my new files section, fixed stuff here and there... A lot of stuff. I mentioned a lot of it in section three. 4.2 - New Updates In the next week or so, expect the finishing touches of my site, then a review frenzy with lots of new reviews added! I will also introduce the Editorials section, and get some other small stuff added. I'll try to get all the stuff I lost back, or as much as I can. ----------------------------------------------------------- 5.0 - Current Site Status ----------------------------------------------------------- (Since Last Mailing) Part of Site | Change | Total -------------|--------|----------- Files |+211 |214 Reviews |+4 |7 Links |+203 |203 Tutorials |+104 |104 Hits |+ ~300 |4230 (There are more fields I could put here, but I'm tired of typing.) ----------------------------------------------------------- 6.0 - Final Message ----------------------------------------------------------- Seeya! Check my site every day because that's how often it's updated. New stuff will be added. All the stuff described in 4.2 will be done by next time. That's all I have to say. Have a nice say! -Pete pete_berg@yahoo.com Pete's QBASIC Site-------http://petesqbsite.hypermart.net ----------------------------------------------------------- Visit http://server.com/WebApps/mail-list-unsubscribe.cgi?id=15202 to unsubscribe from this mailing list.
