First Impression | Cool! A side scrolling RPG with great graphics! Wait a second. I can't move! What keys do you press to do things!? Noooooooooooo!!!! |
What It's Like | In this demo, you're an elven hero that is given a magic ring and sent by your grandfather to save something... I can't remember... haven't read the story in a while... Well, after spending about ten hours learning about the keys you press to do things, you start out in a town, and the game begins. In three seconds, you've forgotten what keys you have to press to do things, and get mad because you have to press two keys at once to do some things, and it's hard to get the keypresses right. After a few minutes you quit due to frustration or because you're bored. There are currently two 'levels', a cave and a town. There's a store, a working battle engine where you can fight spiders and cave creatures, a store, houses, and a few other features. |
Other things you should know |
This program is very complex. It's hard to decipher, and spans over four .bas files. All the graphics are great, and drawn pixel by pixel, or with LINEs and CIRCLEs and stuff. There is a great slide show sith a lot of text that you can watch, plus an awesome help file that you MUST read to learn how to play. Don't try to read the code because you'll get lost in it! I tried to edit it so I could start with a lot of money, but it didn't work. It took about ten minutes to even find the variable I needed to edit! Also: You must unzip this to: C:\everdown\ |

Plot/Story |
This has a good story, with a cool slideshow and great dialog to eplain it to you! Great job on this!
|
Gameplay/Control |
This is The Ring of Everdown's Major Downfall - the gameplay. It's impossible to remember the keys (he uses about every key on the keyboard!), and you have to press two buttons at once which is a pain in QBASIC. Horrible job on this!

Overall Impression |
Awesome graphics and story! It also has a very complicated program showing a lot of effort (or a lot of disorginization) on the author's part. The gameplay sucked. That's just about it. The battle engine was original, but enemies always attacked in the same exact spots which got sort of annoying after a while. Pretty good job, though!
