Tomb Raider
First Impression Hehe. Tomb Raider: The Adventures of Lira Croft. :) Tomb Raider, the top-notch adventure/platform series of games for Playstation has come to QB .. kinda .. You see, Davidio made a simple, 2D top down view game inspired by Tomb Raider. Here it is, presented in Screen 12 with 16 wonderful colors!
What It's Like This is a rather buggy game, where you move a circle with another circle with a little stick coming out of it around the screen, avoiding black squares and picking up yellow keys in circles the same size as you. :) Lara Croft really does look different in a 2D top-down view format. She seems to have lost her famous figure and become more of a geometric shape. Well, anyways, you move Lira around on the screen, and are not allowed to go on some spots (walls), and can on others. You have to avoid the black pits, or you die, and you also have to pick up the two keys in the game. There are three screens total. Sometimes her head 'falls off'. The gun doesn't work. It's too short. Ahh well... Read the rest of the review for more info.
Other things you should know Not really anything I can think of... This is a demo, but I don't know if a full version will ever be coming out. Check out Davidio's site here.

Graphics As you can see from the screenshots (a little mangled from being shrunk from a 640*480 sized picture), the graphics are simple. And bad. They are drawn completely with LINE, CIRCLE and PSET, so they have an excuse, though. I can tell that Lira is who you are because when you press the up arrow, she moves up, and also by the color of her 'body' and 'hair'. The keys don't look too bad, but that is the best graphic in the game. The graphics are just simple shapes that represent things, and kind of resemble them. I figured out what everything was with no problems (I think). Anyways, if this was a full-length game, I wouldn't be so critical about the graphics, but because it is short and boring, I will.

Flexibility/Features Believe it or not, this does have a tiny bit of a story at the end! You can also view your inventory and quit the game any time you want to! This also has a timer that I don't really understand, because it goes by %... But I do know that you have plenty of time to beat the game, so it's kind of pointless. There are keys that you can pick up (but you don't have to to win), and there also are pits that you actually jump! That's right -- on the third screen, you can jump pits!!! Hmm... I think I'm getting a little too excited over nothing. This game needs features and add ons and stuff to do, because as of now, there really aren't any. I don't want to do this again, but ...

Gameplay/Control Okay, this game does have something going for it right now - you can move around around easily. The gameplay is bad, but the game control works just fine for this game. You use the numerical keypad for everything in this game. (Moving, quitting and viewing inventory.) I don't see anything wrong with that. I don't like using the numerical keypad arrows, so I changed the code a bit so that I could use the regular arrows when I played, just because I kept pressing '5' to quit when I was trying to press up. :) (This version is not included.) Pretty good job on the game control, because it fits this game nicely.

Overall Impression This game is too small, too buggy, and has horrible graphics. :( For some reason, though, I thought it was kind of funny because Lira looked like an idiot, and it compared itself to the professional Tomb Raiders. I also played my way through this game about 4 times before I finally sat down and did the review. I may have given this a bad score, but that's because it kinda .. sucks .. If you want to try a game that is 'done by an amateur' (as is clearly stated in the game), check this out. It may even remind you of your early QB programming projects.
