To Pete's QB Site: Now that I've found you, I intend to USE YOU!
It appears there are some benefits within 7.1 over 4.5.
Is QBasic 7.1 legally free to download (abandonware)?
Any other things to consider?

PDS or QB7.1 is for more advanced programming usually. It has extra memory and functions to use.
It is available online, but is still owned by M$ just like QB4.5 and is supposedly illegal to use if you did not pay for it.

If you don't care about legalities, then just download it! M$ does not prosecute individuals, but may sue download sites. PDS and QB45 are no longer sold either. DO NOT place PDS in the same folder as QB 4.5! PDS has it's own version of QB.EXE called OLDQB.EXE for simpler programs.
I feel that it is jusifiable because it really is abandoned software and DOS may not be available soon on newer PC's.

Yeah, I've got an old copy of DOS 6.22, but don't really use it for anything at this time. Maybe one day I'll install it as a VM.Seb McClouth wrote:Long live DOSBOX (not entirely true, or ofcourse the boot from USB/HD/etc. if you can still get your hands on MS-DOS....)

While I'm a Windows sysadmin, I prefer Linux. Hence, DOSBox is my DOS tool of choice. I don't like to use CMD for much DOS stuff, due to the increasing lack of support for legacy applications.
