QBasic.com is DOWN

Post by Pete »

Man, if there's anything I thought was constant in the Qmunity it was QBasic.com. But mennonite just let me know that it is down.

I don't know if it's a temporary thing or if it's down for good, but it's definitely down.

The most ironic thing is this post at QB45.com:
http://www.qb45.com/index.php?page=foru ... forum=1272

And then look at Plasma's response.

Wow, I never would have imagined that. If ever you wanna get it for the sake of not loosign it's contents you can always go here:

http://web.archive.org/

end www.qbasic.com and go get the last archive (november 16 2004)

Did the Wayback Machine save all of the binary files? (The downloads?)

It doesn't save binary files. All the ZIP files have been lost.

But the plain text BAS files are still downloadable.

I didn't think that it would. If it saved downloadable files like that, Archive.org would run out of server space in about ten minutes. :)

Oh well. I highly doubt that QBasic.com is down for good.

holy crap i think the domain has changed hands. before it was register under network solution now it being handled by goDaddy.com.

i think somone put snapback rights or challenged the domain name since www.qbasic.com was registered as a coperation which is illegal(at least somone told be that before when i got them to do some deep whois database searching).

I'll be honest, I don't give a flying fork. It's better off instead of being there and featuring dead links.

Under Construction

:) Maybe Mallard has gotten around to updating it or something?

Mallard hasn't even owned the site since 1999.

I think what happened is that someone squatted the domain name, and redirected it to a different server. Do a whois search for QBasic.com. It used to be registered by Network Solutions, and now it's registered under another company.

I think that page was the first thing i ever visited in my life relating to QB... And it is still exactly the same as more than three (or four?) years before. "Still" since currently it works for me. Hey, i have a site downloader! :)

**Feeding QBasic.com with the site downloader**

Hope it will succeed :)

Great! It works! Downloads, everything are coming down on my machine's HDD! :D

Finished: it got 10Mb of data. Many things pointed to www.wwnet.com/~miladz/ what seemed to be not existing anymore... Sigh... I got 343 basic programs with it, but as i said the place i mentioned above did not exist what also pointed to some downloads.

As i looked around in the error report the missing files because of that site are the compilers, but a few things failed on qbasic.com itself (17 downloads could not be found).

The failed programs: truckin.zip; sepinksi.bas; mystfiy.bas; dog.zip; jhunter.zip; balloonx.zip; soc11.zip; blast3.zip; hh22.bas; nobreak.bas. The other faults not seemed to be downloads: they mostly pointed to external pages including one to Microsoft for an MS-DOS download.
After 60 million years a civilization will search for a meteorite destroying most of the living creatures around this age...

There must be a better future for the Cheetah

Running Cheetah is on again to work for it. http://rcs.fateback.com
