I like more folky music -- rock and pop with simple melodies and good lyrics. Especially British Invasion stuff, Bob Dylan, the Kinks, etc. I also like a lot of indie music and classic rock. Plus I like old school rap... "Rapper's Delight" and "The Message" are awesome.

My favorite band at the moment is The Mountain Goats. Most people haven't heard of them, but I think that they're the best band in existence these days.

I can't stand "heavy" stuff like Slipknot. It sounds like screaming and noise to me -- I see almost no musical value to it whatsoever (except I guess sometimes it makes you feel like a badass instead of your puny weak little self).

heck yeah, and I feel like beating the crap out of you.
actually, most of hte music is pretty good. it just depends on who you listen too. Slipknot has really pulled their act together int he past year or two. they've dropped all of the swearing and are producing some pretty good music. now mostly I'm into the punk rock scene. My Chemical Romance, the Used, etc.

Meh. I'd still have to disagree with you on heavy metal and Slipknot. I just don't enjoy it. I mean, you're talking to a guy that listens to classical music on the radio every morning when he drives to work. Stravinsky and Vivaldi are more my style. :)

Anyway, my favorite artists:
The Mountain Goats
Bob Dylan
Johnny Cash
Neutral Milk Hotel
The Streets
The Clash
The Kinks
The Who
The Sugar Hill Gang
Nico
Cat Stevens
The Mamas and the Papas
Nena
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Beatles
Velvet Underground
Louis Armstrong
Beach Boys
Herman's Hermits
Pink Floyd
Tenacious D
They Might Be Giants
Dexy's Midnight Runners
Weird Al

Ken Burns "The Civil War" Soundtrack (Civil War era instrumental)
"Oh Brother Where Art Thou" Soundtrack
Wes Anderson movie soundtrack albums (Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums)

My main musical interest is scandinavian black metal. Everyone's musical opinion is their opinion, so...I could care less if people don't like my music. :D

lol very true old timer......;-).

However I can't tell you if I like that or not, I never heard (or atleast I don't believe I've heard) an scandinavian black metal music.

Can you give me a few of the more popular titles and groups?

Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Dissection, Ancient, Lord Belial...to name a few. I also like some Japanese acts such as Kodomo Band and Geinoh Yamashirogumi.

Ryo Yonemitsu (Nihom Falcon/Ys) is the king of video game soundtracks. :D

Punk, all forms, including some dodgy pop-punk ( like early offspring )

Metal - slipknot, early fork metalica ( the badly produced shit ), Slayer, System, Cradle of Filth ( or rather her ghost in the fog ), Dimmu-borgir ( easy listening black-metal )

Recently I've been getting allot more into black metal though, I bought a mayhem and darkthrone album, and the Fenriz-presents Compilation (Burzum track fork rules), and I've almost got a band up and running (still looking for a drummer...)

I listen to all forms of rock, from acoustic/folksy stuff (Dylan, Jack johnson, Ben harper, Mason Jennings), to heavier stuff (Pearl Jam, Tool, APC, Metallica) to very heavy stuff (older In Flames, Nightwish).

I also listen to flamenco, jazz, classical and a very limited variety of rap.

My favourite genre is probably classical music, but overall my taste is quite eclectic.

I love liszt, especially his piano concerto number 2, and all the hungarian rhapsodies.

Beethoven
Especially the ninth symphony, the 6th symphony and his fifth piano concerto. Plus his famous solo piano works like the fur elise and the pathetique.

Mozart
His requiem mass rocks. And, so does his 41st symphony and the ronda all turca. And eine Kline, and about 647 other compistions.

Holst
For the planets, especially Jupiter.

Ravel
for his solo piano work, Deux de Eau. And also for the Bolero.

John Williams
Even though he ripped off Holst for his starwars soundtrack.

I also like rock music and electronic music. My favourite bands in no particular order are:
Underworld
fatboy Slim, but only for the better living through chemistry CD.
William Shatner - For his collaboration with Ben folds "common people"
Ben Folds.
Moby
Rolling Stones
Resin Dogs
The prodigy
The Cure
Oasis
REM
Coldplay
Jet
_MOUSEX pistols
U2

Have to agreee with Pete about the beach boys, the beatles, louis armstrong and the clash. Can't believe I almost forgot them.

Also like listening to video game music, but I wont mention which as I don't want to flatten anyone's egos

YES! I love that album!

Seriously, that's one of my favorite albums of the year. Shatner rocks.

My favorite song on the album is "I Can't Get Behind That!" but "Common People" rocks too.

Hmmm, I like Heavy Metal. It seems like a lot of geeks are into metal. All my geek friends are.
And I dont mean all that poser-metal like slipknot and job for a cowboy.

My range varies from Blue Oyster Cult (Imaginos, Club Ninja etc) to Metallica to black metal bands like Satyricon, or viking metal like Bathory, Thyrfing, or Wolfchant.

A few bands off the top of my head are (a good list for any metal fan):
Led Zepplin
Metallica
Blue Oyster Cult
Pantera
Megadeth
Slayer
Twisted Sister
Alica Cooper
Molly Hatchet
Blackfoot
System of a down
Atheist
Death
Fates Warning
Misfits
Dimmu Borgir (mostly old like For All Tid or Stormblast)
Burzum
Iron Maiden
Dream Theator
Motorhead
Judas Priest
Lynard Skynard
Kix
Slaughter
Skid Row
Poison
Great White
Motley Crue
Some ACDC
David Lee Roth
Joe Satriani (amazing!)
Anvil
Satyricon
Thryfing
Wolfchant
Celtic Frost
Iron Butterfly
The Who
The Doors
Jimmi Hendrix
Forte
Kiss
Machine Head
Skiltron (bagpipes in metal!)
Tyr
Korn

I like the hard stuff but not the viking screaming-where-I-don't-know-what-the-hell-your-singing-about music. I grew up on korn and metallica and I like the west coast Snoop dog, Dr. Dre, and Eminem. I also like classical music although I don't have any albums. And to maximize my geekyness I have the Pirates of the carribiean at worlds end and Star Wars. How come nobody mention Ramstien and Nine inch nails? 8)    :?:
