Both the Desktop 1703 and laptop 1709 versions are slow to respond on wake up.

Desktop required a full reboot to use after a few days sleeping...

Laptop and desktop PC's have problems scrolling in Chrome browser.
Laptop is also slow at opening pages in Chrome...

Windows 10's future look could be Sets, a tabbed app interface
The concept includes two major components: the organization of the different app windows into Sets; and the longer-term evolution of how Windows intelligently recognizes how Sets should be formed, which is part of the rollout and evolution of Timeline. Timeline will be rolled out almost immediately to Insiders, followed shortly by Sets.
Ex-Microsoft Product Manager reveals the unsurprising reason for the company’s decline
Being abandoned by developers and the so-called “app gap” has been the main reason Microsoft has become an increasingly weak platform company. From a company that has been best known for their stability and backwards compatibility, Microsoft is now seen as an unreliable partner not worth betting on.

Of course, ultimately the issue is a lack of strong leadership in Microsoft over the course over many, many years, with the leadership itself being embattled by the board and shareholders.
Here's why Microsoft dropped its Delve app for Windows 10
On the Windows front, it looks like Microsoft is exploring new ways to make search more front-and center in Windows 10. A new, immersive search experience, similar to Apple's macOS Spotlight, will likely be testable soon by Windows Insiders. Users will be able to search for files, pictures, settings, apps and more via a search box that will be independent from the current Cortana search box in Windows 10.
Evidence mounts that laptops are terrible for students at lectures
To study this, researchers at Princeton University and the University of California asked a group of students to take notes at a lecture using pen and paper while another group used laptops. The experiment found that the students who used a laptop did not understand the lecture as well as those who wrote their notes out by hand. The researchers hypothesized that this was because students who wrote notes by hand had to process what the lecturer was saying and, in effect, summarize what was being said to keep up with the lecture. Additionally, they found that laptop note takers had a “tendency to transcribe lectures verbatim,” which mean they were less likely to process information into their own words, thus preventing them from truly understanding what was being taught.

Chrome Apps are dead, as Google shuts down the Chrome Web Store section
More than a year ago, Google announced that Chrome Apps would be removed from Windows, Mac, and Linux versions of Chrome (but not Chrome OS) some time in 2017, and it seems we've come to that point today. Google has shut down the "app" section of the Chrome Web Store for those platforms, meaning you can't install Chrome Apps anymore. Google has started sending out emails to Chrome app developers telling them that Chrome Apps are deprecated, and while previously installed apps still work, the functionality will be stripped out of Chrome in Q1 2018.

UK's GCHQ found out how to hack Windows Defender to own your PC
Microsoft has released an out-of-band patch for two severe flaws in Windows Defender. The flaws were discovered by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), a unit of the UK's spy agency GCHQ, which dispenses cyberdefense advice to the government and public.

Just last week, for example, the NCSC told UK agencies hosting information classified 'secret' never to use any Russian antivirus, including Kaspersky, due to the risk of Russian cyber-spies using it as a backdoor.

The NCSC's probe of Microsoft's antivirus uncovered two critical remote code execution bugs in the core of Windows Defender, called Microsoft Malware Protection Engine.

Microsoft's Edge browser is in serious trouble
The resulting data, which Net Applications implied depicted Edge's real use, showed that the browser was a prime target of bot-wielding scammers. By comparing Edge's old and new shares, it was evident that as much as half of the earlier Edge traffic had been faked by bots. The portion of Edge's share credited to bots fluctuated month to month, but fell below 30% in only 4 of the 19 months for which Net Applications provided data.

Edge wasn't the only browser that came out looking worse than presumed prior. Microsoft's legacy browser, Internet Explorer (IE) also was revealed as a Potemkin village. Under the old data regime, which included bots, IE's user share was overblown, at times more than double the no-bots reality.

Windows 10 Facial Recognition Feature Can Be Bypassed with a Photo
According to SySS researchers, Microsoft delivered updates to patch this attack only for Windows 10 branches 1703 and 1709, but not earlier 16** releases.

"SySS recommends to update to the latest revision of Windows 10 version 1709, to enable the 'enhanced anti-spoofing' feature, and to reconfigure Windows Hello Face Authentication afterwards," researchers say.

The last step of reconfiguring Windows Hello is necessary because the attack would still work even after the update and also if the user was already using the "enhanced anti-spoofing" feature before the update, as per the third proof-of-concept video released by SySS and embedded below.

Microsoft 2017 in review: Wins, fails, and ??? moments

PC World's best Windows 10 tricks, tips and tweaks
Windows 10 is chock-full of handy, hidden new features worth exploring. Check out the best tips and tricks here.
Eye tracking within Windows 10's Fall Creators Update
Eye tracking has quietly emerged as an alternative to the mouse, led by companies like Tobii. The concept is simple enough: Sensors within an eye tracker bar you mount on your monitor "watch" your gaze, guessing pretty accurately what you're looking at. Though Tobii sees eye tracking as a tool for productivity and gaming, Microsoft currently sees it as a purely assistive feature, rather than a productivity tool.
Paint 3D: Creating cool 3D scenes has never been so much fun
Though it shares a name, Paint 3D isn’t really like the familiar Microsoft Paint app at all. Paint 3D’s entire purpose is to create fun, cartoony 3D objects and scenes—and share them. A major part of Paint 3D’s appeal is the Remix 3D community, where you and other members can import, edit, then share digital objects and ideas. Another is the awesome Magic Select tool which functions as a free Photoshop-like editing tool for 2D and 3D content. Don't forget about the new Mixed Reality Viewer app, either!

Microsoft issues emergency Windows update for processor security bugs
Microsoft is issuing a rare out-of-band security update to supported versions of Windows today. The software update is part of a number of fixes that will protect against a newly-discovered processor bug in Intel, AMD, and ARM chipsets. Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans tell The Verge that the company will issue a Windows update that will be automatically applied to Windows 10 machines at 5PM ET / 2PM PT today.
See further info on processor bug here

Windows 10 32 bitlaptop and 64 bit desktop now run with no issues for over a week.

Microsoft releases PowerShell script to check if your PC is vulnerable to Meltdown and Spectre

PowerShell can place copied commands at prompt with a right click.
Microsoft has also produced a PowerShell script that checks whether your PC is vulnerable. Use the following steps to install and run the test.

Press the Windows key and type PowerShell. Right click the PowerShell shortcut and select Run as Administrator.
Or right click Start button window and use Windows PowerShell(Admin).

Type or copy-paste Install-Module SpeculationControl and press Enter.
If you are prompted to install the NuGet provider, type Y and press Enter, and R if you are warned about installing from an untrusted repository.
Note: If the following comes up
To install version '1.0.3', run Install-Module and add the -Force parameter, this command will install version '1.0.3' in side-by-side with version '1.0.2'.
Then type or copy-paste Install-Module SpeculationControl -Force

The red area below appeared because Import-Module SpeculationControl Script execution was disabled by default.
Image
To set the script execution policy type or copy-paste: powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy AllSigned and hit enter.

About PowerShell Execution Policies
With the installation complete, type or copy-paste Import-Module SpeculationControl and press Enter.
Type or copy-paste Get-SpeculationControlSettings and press Enter.
In the list of results that's displayed, you're looking to see that a series of protections are enabled -- this will be listed as True. Microsoft explains that the ideal set of results looks like this:

Speculation control settings for CVE-2017-5715 [branch target injection]

Hardware support for branch target injection mitigation is present: True
Windows OS support for branch target injection mitigation is present: True
Windows OS support for branch target injection mitigation is enabled: True

Speculation control settings for CVE-2017-5754 [rogue data cache load]

Hardware requires kernel VA shadowing: True
Windows OS support for kernel VA shadow is present: True
Windows OS support for kernel VA shadow is enabled: True
Windows OS support for PCID optimization is enabled: True

Microsoft may soon let you view the diagnostic data it collects from your PC
After receiving significant pushback from privacy authorities in Europe and other regions, Microsoft has been steadily refining their approach to collecting data from your PC.

The latest innovation, spotted by ZDNet in Windows 10 Build 17063 and 17074, appears to include the options to view and delete the diagnostic data that Microsoft automatically transmits to the mothership.

The links are not currently active, but when it does go live should go a long way to reassuring users regarding what data Microsoft collects.

Microsoft tees up Windows 10 support of Progressive Web Apps
Google has been the main champion of PWAs, which are basically web sites and/or apps that behave like native apps. Microsoft also has been offering developers a way to turn their websites/apps into Store apps using its "Westminster" bridge. But now Microsoft is joining forces with Google and other PWA backers.

If Microsoft's new strategy works, PWAs may help increase the number and quality of apps located in the Microsoft Store. PWAs in the Store will be packaged as an AppX in Windows 10 and be able to run in their own sandboxed container.
Exclusive: Windows 10 S is Dead, Long Live S Mode
For Home and Education SKUs, you will be able to upgrade from Home S, to Home for free but Pro users going from Pro S to Pro will be charged $49. On the commercial side, Pro S is only available with Core, Value, Entry, and Small Tablet (if this doesn’t make sense, check out my other post here) with Core+ and Workstations being left out of the offering.

Windows 10 update (and retirement) calendar: Mark these dates
March 13, 2018
Windows 10 1803 - the first Semi-Annual Channel release for the year - debuts on this date or soon after. Because the Oct. 17, 2017 launch of 1709, aka Fall Creators Update, was more than a month later than anticipated by Microsoft's professed plan, the date for 1803 will tell us which the company sticks to more tightly: the every-six-month schedule or the March and September targets.

April 10, 2018
Microsoft retires Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro version 1607, the mid-2016 feature upgrade dubbed Anniversary Update. But a recent change to Windows 10 support -- one that extended support for Windows 10 Enterprise 1607 and Windows 10 Education 1607 -- means that those SKUs won't be retired for another six months.

During the six-month "servicing extension" -- Microsoft's words -- Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education will receive "security-only updates" that omit the non-security bug fixes provided in the first 18 months of support.

Microsoft retires Windows 10 1703, the early-2017 feature upgrade labeled Creators Update, for customers running Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro.

For Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education, today is the end of support for version 1607, aka the Anniversary Update from 2016. Those customers must migrate to a newer version – 1703, 1709 or 1803 – by this date to continue receiving security patches.

Windows 10 1903 launches on this date or soon after.

Microsoft removes Windows 10 1709, aka 2017's Fall Creators Update, from the Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro support lists, halting security and non-security updates to devices running those editions.

Cured desktop update problem here: 5 Methods to Fix Windows 10 Update Error Code
Media Creation Tool was launched with Windows10 for improving the digital delivery of the system. This may take some more effort but is more reliable than the Windows Update.

Moreover, this can be used to force the updates and surpass the issues.

Here follow the ways how to make use of it:

1) Download Media Creation tool
2) And backup your data and license key.
3) Next, start the Media Creation Tool EXE and click Upgrade this PC now.
4) The tool will obtain and install the available updates.
5) After completing the whole process, restart your PC
The Windows 10 installation may take up to 2 hours

After Windows 10 install, had to use Windows Update where KB4088776 supposedly failed:
