DREAM16 OS - The new GUI in town! =] (UPDATE!!!)

Post by bongomeno »

Hello my fellow geeks! I am here to show you my latest program. I was messing around with some Qbasic GUIs last night and it kind of inspired me. I have always been amazed by Qbasic GUIs, so I thought I would make one!

I have never made a GUI in Qbasic before or even used the mouse in my programs so this is not going to be the best. Also, I just started it last night so it is incomplete.

It is mouse driven. It features a desktop with 10 icons currently. The icons allow you to run scripts (PROSEED) or apps (MS-DOS programs) and manage files and other things as well.

It features a nice and simple password system. It also has a screen saver with a timer that you can customize. You can also change icon colors. This is all done in the control panel icon.

When you click the power icon, it saves your setting and prepares for you to power down (I am trying to get an asm routing so it powers down for you).

I will continue working on this and adding more. This includes the ability to customize the desktop with user defined options. Also, I would like to add a memory meter to the desktop. As I work on PROSEED, I will try to make it work along side DREAM16 better.

There are several apps and scrips included with the package, there is also no password currently set when you 1st run it.

I just started this LAST NIGHT, so it might have 'a few' problems.

This is the link to it on my site: http://www.freewebs.com/geekbasic/DREAM16.zip

I have just COMPLETELY rewrote DREAM16 OS for the better!

It features all of, but no only the following:
- moveable and closeable multi-size windows
- moveable desktop icons
- desktop icons can do a number of tasks including running apps
- password (optional)
- several applications including a TINY BASIC interpreter
- a colorful interface
- saving of user settings upon exiting the OS
- graphical font routine with different styles

I plan on adding much more, but this is mainly a demo of what is yet to come... I appreciate all comments!

Interesting...

A nice feature would be to write multi-tasking apps (maybe with cooperative multitasking).

I was thinking about that: http://www.network54.com/Forum/648955/t ... nterpreted

I got this answer: http://www.network54.com/Forum/648955/m ... 9/angros47

I have been working on this on and off for a while now, I do not have much time to post this, but I will hopefully be releasing an update soon.
