My computer is fixed! (QB Express Coming ASAP)

Post by Pete »

Hey guys --

In case you didn't know, my computer broke when I brought it home over Thanksgiving break, and as a result, I was unable to finish and release the new issue of QB Express.

A week went by as I tried absolutely EVERYTHING to fix it without sucking up and buying new hardware. But in the end I could come to only one conclusion: my motherboard was fork.

So I bought a new motherboard and installed it... and my computer is working again!

$109 down the drain...for a crappier motherboard than I had before... but it works! (I will be sending in my broken ASUS K8V Deluxe motherboard and getting a replacement soon, (3 year warranty!), but until then, I have a semi-working computer.)

Only 2 of my 4 hard drives are currently operational at the same time, and my DVD+-RW burner was giving me problems, so I unhooked it. (That actually might have fried my motherboard in the first place... it kept on shorting out or something.) I also have only two of my three 512MB DDR RAM sticks in, since this motherboard supports only two sticks. And I have significantly fewer firewire and USB ports to work with. But for the three weeks until I come home from college for winter break, it will do fine. When I get home, and get my replacement K8V motherboard, everything will be back to normal.

Anyway, I'm gonna get to work on QB Express Issue #4 so that I can get it out...

...even if it is about 12 days late.

You have my sympathies Pete, I wen't through something similar about 3 weeks ago. Finally tracked it down to my crappy power supply unit causing everything to malfunction, had to fork out ?30 (US$50) for a new one. And now my video card is starting a long, painful, random-dots-on-screen kinda death..

Tempted to bin the bloody PC and dig out my ol' P200. That never gave me a moment of grief

Pete, you are mean. Now that your computer is fixed, mine is broken. It must be some sort of chain. I just use it for about ten minutes and it shuts itself down. We have always had bad sh*t going sown with our fans
