Windows 10 users aren’t updating to the Creators Update fast enough
As you know, Microsoft earlier opened the floodgates for the Creators update this month, so users all over the world were now being prompted to update to Windows 10 version 1703. However, it hasn’t been enough. AdDuplex states that the cadence of updates has slowed down in $$$ to the Anniversary Update.

While I couldn’t find any AdDuplex stats for January 2017, a glance reveals that February 2017 (7 months after the release of the Anniversary Update) 90% of users were running Windows 10 version 1607. Unless there is a massive rush of updates between now and September, there is a looming possibility that Windows 10 versions are going to get increasingly more fragmented.

Microsoft's Windows 10 Fall Creators Update rollout to kick off October 17
Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will include a number of new security features for enterprise users. It also includes support for the Windows Mixed Reality headsets that Microsoft OEM partners like Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer and Asus are going to begin making commercially available starting October 17. The Fall Creators Update also will reintroduce the placeholders concept for OneDrive storage with OneDrive Files on Demand.

Microsoft also will be releasing another new Windows 10 edition, known as Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, simultaneously with the release of the Fall Creators Update. No upgrade pricing information is available so far, but I've heard there will be an upgrade path and fee from Windows 10 Home and/or Pro to Workstation.
Windows 10 Fall Creators Update shaking up privacy settings some more
With the Fall Creators Update, Microsoft is switching things around to make Windows behave more like mobile platforms: all access to these sensitive things will now require an explicit per-application opt-in, with an on-screen prompt to allow, for example, access to the camera. On installing the update, existing applications will retain their permissions, but any new apps installed from the Windows Store will require their access to be enabled.

Finally, for Windows 10 Enterprise users, Microsoft is adding a new setting that limits diagnostic data collection to the minimum required for the new Windows Analytics service. Windows Analytics helps administrators perform inventory tracking, monitor operating system and application crashes, assess system readiness for upgrades, and similar. To do this, it needs to collect some information from each machine about hardware, software, crashes, and so on. The new setting should provide all the diagnostic data that Windows Analytics needs but nothing extra.

How to Enable Microsoft’s Precision Touchpad Drivers on Your W10 Laptop
Now, it’s possible to simply install Microsoft’s Precision Touchpad drivers on many PC laptops, which will make Windows treat the touchpad as a Precision Touchpad. This will not work on every single laptop. You may encounter problems on some laptops; it just depends on the hardware.

Many people feel the general movement and sensitivity of the Microsoft-customized Precision Touchpad experience feels better than the standard Synaptics or ELAN drivers.

You can check if your Windows 10 PC already has the Precision Touchpad drivers installed by navigating to Settings > Devices > Touchpad. If you see the “Your PC has a precision touchpad” text, you’re already using a PC with a Precision Touchpad. That means you already have the drivers, so you don’t have to do anything. Even if your touchpad doesn’t feel great, that’s a problem with the hardware—not the drivers.

If you have a “Synaptics” device, download the Synaptics driver package from Lenovo. If you have an “ELAN” device instead, download the ELAN driver from Softpedia.
Save your old driver and have a mouse on hand in case it does not work!

Microsoft Teams is replacing Skype for Business to put more pressure on Slack
Microsoft says it has been building a new Skype infrastructure that has been “evolving rapidly,” and it will serve as the enterprise-grade service for voice, video, and meetings in Microsoft Teams. A new Skype for Business server will be available in the second half of 2018 for customers not ready to move to Teams, but Microsoft is pushing Office 365 users will to move over to Teams as the key communications client instead of relying on Skype for Business.

Microsoft is releasing a new version of Windows 10 S for the enterprise
Microsoft said that it will be targeting the broader enterprise use case in the future, but for now, it's focused on the frontline worker. With that in mind, the firm is working on a new version of Windows 10 S that's based on Enterprise, aptly called Windows 10 Enterprise in S mode, which will be made available in spring 2018.
Internet Explorer bug leaks whatever you type in the address bar
There's a bug in the latest version of Internet Explorer that leaks the addresses, search terms, or any other text typed into the address bar.

The bug allows any currently visited website to view any text entered into the address bar as soon as the user hits enter. The technique can expose sensitive information a user didn't intend to be viewed by remote websites, including the Web address the user is about to visit. The hack can also expose search queries, since IE allows them to be typed into the address bar and then retrieved from Bing or other search services.

The flaw was disclosed Tuesday by security researcher Manuel Caballero. This proof-of-concept site shows the exploit works as described on the latest version of IE.

M$ Office 2019 for customers who don't want to pay forever for Office 365
Office 2019 will ship in the second half of 2018, Microsoft said, with a preview version scheduled for mid-2018. The Office 2019 suite will include the standard complement of Office apps: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, plus server apps like Exchange, SharePoint, and Skype for Business.

Microsoft did not announce a price for Office 2019, though Amazon sells a single copy of Microsoft Home & Business for $210. Office 2019 can be installed only on a single PC. That’s important, as users who don’t have a valid Office license installed on a device can only view, not edit, documents.

Google: Windows 10 patches put Windows 7 users in danger
Google's Project Zero researcher Mateusz Jurczyk has gone into the gory details of several Windows bugs he found to illustrate that Microsoft should fix the same bugs in Windows 7 as it does in Windows 10.

Microsoft is essentially leaving clues for hackers when it patches Windows 10, but not Windows 7, argues Jurczyk.

Microsoft just ended support for Office 2007 and Outlook 2007 on Tuesday.
That means no more security updates, feature updates, support or technical notes for the products, which Microsoft has supported for the past decade.

Microsoft wants customers on Office 2007 to plan to migrate to Office 365 in the cloud or to upgrade to Office 2016.
Windows 10 mandatory October KB4041676 update is causing machines to BSOD
Yesterday, Microsoft released a Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Creators Update, otherwise known as version 1703, which updated it to build 15063.674 as part of its Patch Tuesday update cycle - are you following? Good.

Today when people started waking up from their machines automatically updating during the night, however, they have been faced with a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) instead of the Windows 10 desktop, and unfortunately, no-one seems to know why the installations are failing, only that it relates to KB4041676, which is yesterday's update.

Why the Internet is worried that Microsoft's consumer services are doomed
Microsoft’s relationship with consumers arguably reached its zenith about 2015, when Microsoft co-developed Windows 10 with its fans as part of a multi-device strategy that included Surface tablets, third-party PCs, the HoloLens, a hopeful future for Windows phones, and more. Since then, Microsoft’s reputation has come back down to earth: Windows phones essentially died, the HoloLens disappeared, promised Windows features were delayed or cancelled, and services like Groove are ending.

Dutch privacy regulator says Windows 10 breaks the law
To comply with the law, the DPA says that Microsoft needs to get valid user consent: this means the company must be clearer about what data is collected and how that data is processed. The regulator also complains that the Windows 10 Creators Update doesn't always respect previously chosen settings about data collection. In the Creators Update, Microsoft introduced new, clearer wording about the data collection—though this language still wasn't explicit about what was collected and why—and it forced everyone to re-assert their privacy choices through a new settings page. In some situations, though, that page defaulted to the standard Windows options rather than defaulting to the settings previously chosen.

Windows 10, 1511 now requests that I Upgrade DAILY with no option to LEAVE IT BE! Options include LEARN MORE or REMIND LATER or UPGRADE NOW. Even setting to a Metered Connection does not stop it.

Windows 10’s Fall Creators Update is now available
If your device isn’t on the list, then that doesn’t mean you can’t skip the line. You can manually update to the Fall Creators Update over at Microsoft’s Windows 10 site. Simply click the “update now” button and proceed with the upgrade assistant. You can also download ISO images of the final copy of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update should you want to clean install it on your PC.
Installed version 1709, Fall Creators upgrade and Chrome now works!

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update review:
Microsoft’s Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is what every sequel shoots for: bigger, better, more ambitious than the original. As it rolls out in phases starting Tuesday (see Microsoft's blog post for details), our review focuses on Windows' big, risky bet on mixed reality, plus smarter investments in the pen, creative 3D apps, Edge, and even speech. A ton of practical, everyday additions won us over, including OneDrive placeholders and much longer battery life while watching movies.

Taking a page from Apple’s playbook, Microsoft has also chosen to synchronize the Fall Creators Update with new hardware introductions. The upcoming Surface Book 2, mixed-reality devices from a handful of partners, the Harman/Kardon Invoke, and the Xbox One X populate a hardware/software ecosystem that’s a cohesive whole.

This weeks 32 bit(x86) updates:
2017-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x86-based Systems (KB4043961)
2017-10 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x86-based Systems (KB4049179)
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.255.2.0)
Windows 10 Fall Creators Update causes certain apps to disappear
This time around, the issue causes system apps like Calculator and other apps to disappear from the OS, preventing users from running them from the Start Menu, or via Cortana search. However, when you search for the apps on the Microsoft/Windows Store, the store will tell you that the apps are indeed installed on your PC and can be opened up from the store itself.

Microsoft is yet to issue an official fix for the issue, but the company has provided affected users with a workaround which is fairly straightforward. The company recommends users to either reset the affected apps or completely uninstall and then install them. However, the most effective way of getting the apps back could be to re-register them using PowerShell:

How Windows 10 dictation works in Fall Creators Upgrade
Launching dictation within Windows 10 is a snap. The WIN + H key instantly gets it started. That brings up a small window, which is actually the handwriting panel compressed to a single line. All dictation and navigation is completed orally, although you can stop at any time. Unfortunately, if you pause your dictation to edit using your keyboard, you’re forced to re-enter the WIN + H hotkey to resume dictation. In addition, if you pause for, say, five seconds, dictation stops automatically. A small beep signals when dictation begins or ends.

Dictation is easy within Windows; editing isn’t
3 ways Windows 10 connects to your Android and iOS phone
Right now, if you own either an Android phone or an Apple iPhone, you can reply to texts right from your PC. In the future, you’ll be able to take webpages you were reading on your train ride and send them to your Windows PC at the office. Passwords? Who needs ‘em? And now, with a dedicated Phone section within the Settings menu, Microsoft appears to be setting up a framework for even stronger connections in the future.

For those of you frantically waving Windows phones—yes, you too can connect your phones to your PC, via the Continuum experience Microsoft debuted a little more than a year ago. Unfortunately, with limited hardware and tepid customer support, Microsoft’s Windows phone aspirations are basically dead. Instead, Microsoft has focused on bringing its ecosystem to the far more popular iPhone and Android platforms. The best thing is all of these features are live within the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
Windows 10's My People:
My People is a new feature within the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. (Note: We’ve tested it as part of Windows 10’s Insider Program, so Microsoft may still be ironing out any small bugs we experienced.) It allows you to select your three best friends and symbolically place them near you, via icons in the taskbar. Just as you might stop by for a chat, My People allows you to quickly Skype or email them—and just them—all from a single button on your taskbar. And the best feature is how they can respond: “Shoulder taps” pop up emoji right from your taskbar, so that your friend can wave hello.
Windows 10's TruePlay gaming tech starts sniffing out cheaters
Anti-cheat software isn't new, but TruePlay marks the first time it's been built natively into Windows 10. The market for Windows Store games is a much smaller market compared to, say, Steam (which has its own Valve Anti-Cheat tech), so it's hard to know how much TruePlay will be used. Still, gamers have to wonder how TruePlay might spoil the fun with its own intrusive anti-cheat tactics. We'll have to wait and see.

Windows Application Driver is no longer in Beta!
WinAppDriver is an open standards based tool for UI Test Automation. You can use WinAppDriver to run Automated UI tests for any application on Windows 10. The support for open standards means if you’ve been running UI Test Automation using Appium or Selenium, you can use your existing tools and preferred languages to write tests for Windows applications.
Windows 10 Mobile to be supported through December 2019 at least
Support for Windows 10 Mobile is almost the same as other editions of Windows 10, but the support duration is slightly longer. Each version of Windows 10 Mobile is supported for around 26 months (2 years and 2 months) from the date of release.

End of support dates for each version of Windows 10 Mobile:

Windows 10 Mobile version 1511 build 10586 / Initial Release: January 9, 2018
Windows 10 Mobile version 1607 build 14393 / Anniversary Update: October 9, 2018
Windows 10 Mobile version 1703 build 15063 / Creators Update: June 11, 2019
Windows 10 Mobile version 1709 build 15254 / Fall Creators Update: December 10, 2019

It’s good to know that all Windows 10 Mobile handsets will continue to receive monthly quality and security updates for many more months. If you’re not ready to switch to iOS or Android, you’re fine for now, assuming you don’t suffer from the lack of quality apps on the Windows Store. However, it remains to be seen if Windows 10 Mobile will keep getting feature updates twice a year going forward, such as they are.

Why do I need to uninstall some of my apps during the upgrade?
Some apps have to be uninstalled because they could cause problems with the upgrade process. You'll be able to reinstall these apps after the upgrade to Windows 10 is done.

Other apps have to be uninstalled because they won't work correctly or might not work at all with Windows 10. You won't be able to reinstall or use these apps after the upgrade is completed.

Touchpad gestures for Windows 10
Select an item: Tap on the touchpad.
Scroll: Place two fingers on the touchpad and slide horizontally or vertically.
Zoom in or out: Place two fingers on the touchpad and pinch in or stretch out.
Show more commands (similar to right-clicking): Tap the touchpad with two fingers, or press in the lower-right corner.
See all open windows: Place three fingers on the touchpad and swipe them away from you.
Show the desktop: Place three fingers on the touchpad and swipe them towards yourself.
Switch between open windows: Place three fingers on the touchpad and swipe right or left.
Open Cortana: Tap three fingers on the touchpad.
Open action center: Tap four fingers on the touchpad.
Switch virtual desktops: Place four fingers on the touchpad and swipe right or left.

Some of these gestures will only work with precision touchpads, so don't fret if a move won't work for you.
Note: Many touchpads wll be disabled when a mouse or its wireless receiver is connected

The last official way to get a free Windows 10 upgrade is ending soon
Free upgrades for users of assistive technology will cease at the end of the year.
What that means in practice, however, is less than clear. The limitations of the upgrade offer have never been meaningfully enforced. Paul Thurrott has been testing the ability to perform clean installations of Windows 10 (using the media creation tools from Microsoft) with Windows 7 or Windows 8 license keys, and this continues to work even with the latest Fall Creators Update. There's no verification that you're actually using assistive technology or anything like that; you can just enter the key, and the software installs and activates normally.
