i made this a while ago and pass it out once in awhile
near my home...i just want people to prepare as
best they can cuase you never know....no this is
NOT a spam bot...

12 bucks could save your life

life is rarely fair are you prepared so you can get by during a bad event?

here are some FREE pointers, based losely on going to a DOLLAR store.
EVERYONE can spend 1 dollar per month to make a surival kit. if you
can spend more, good your ahead of the game then. ALMOST all
of these items can be bought at the dollar store for $1.09 ea.

1. a small bucket w/handle or small backpack to carry your gear

2. a good pocket knife.

3. flashlight(yes they are at the dollar store for 1 dollar)

4. batteries for flashlight

5. 1 gallon of water per person( at a regular store)
generally about .99 cents for 1 gallon.

you can buy any number of items for emergency food

6. 3 candy bars for a buck

7. 2 cans of veggies/soup for a buck about 4 servings

8. 1 bag of beans or rice for a buck about 10+ servings

9. 8 packets of ramen noodles and broth

10. 6 packets of matches for about 1.09(at a regular store)

11. 1 metal/ceramic cup/bowl to cook and drink out of
--------------------------------------------------------------------

total: about 11.00 + .99 tax = 11.99

this could take care of 2 people for 2-3 days...

bring your own SPOON and can opener..

Subtract the water and add a candle, matches, and a blanket, and you have a list of things everyone north of the Mason-Dixon should carry in their cars in the winter. Here in Wisconsin it's been known to snow up to 3 feet in a matter of a day or two. Run off the road at night during a storm and you're in for at least one day of vacation.

money pracitcally devalued to ZERO in a few weeks live
in fear? i wonder if greeners arent all a twitter over global
warming, & peak oil? i wonder if the chinese were worried
when they institued the 1 child policy?

hmmm better catch up on current events and come outa

I don't think most Americans behave like this.

On subject: A good pocket knife usually costs more than a buck. I paid $15 for the one I own now and it doesn't even have much gadgetry on it.

Yes, everyone on SE asia etc. dont have those, but if you have " DOLLAR store.", you surely have faucets too.

The whole point of having prepared water is in case the water service stops. It used to happen a lot here in PR. Electricity still goes out pretty often too, so having candles or lanterns is a part of life here.

lurah: our "leaders" are idiots. There's not been a smart leader in the USA since...well, since its inception.

exactly, during a mishap things possibly dont work right
I.E...earthquake....power lines go down, pipes burst
buildings collapse....you might have to leave the comfort
of your house and get to a safe place which could be 1-2-3 days
away on foot...during that time you might need some water
or food, light, fire etc...same for snow storm, flood, tsunami
hurricane, tornado...

Actually that is part of life here too. But look's like at this side of earth, having candless, matches, flashlight, batteries etc. on closet is normal thing. After all, even kid knows those can be necessary time to time.

And i allways have some canned food (fruits, meat etc.) on my closet, and i dont buy them because fear of tsunami, earthquake or anything.

Common sense is good to use, everyone should be clever enough to understand that candless might come handy sometime. To get light when electrics are of, or to give atmosphere when having some nude things with partner.

I'm generally on the conservative side of a-political, but I agree that sometimes political leadership in the USA goes over the edge. This whole "Threat Level" thing is idiotic. Let's see... is it yellow today, or orange? And what am I supposed to do about that? Let's see, if it's orange I'll watch out for people carrying box cutters and maps, but if it's yellow, I'll only watch for people carrying toothpaste and shampoo... for crying out loud...

Leading politicians, at least in the USA, are generally former lawyers. Sometimes I think putting a good computer programmer or scientist in office would bring some common sense into the arena. (or how about a good barber, auto mechanic, carpenter, or farmer?)

faucets might not work if your pipes burst or if there is flooding
you might not be able to get to a faucet at all or during flooding
sewage and stuff will could get into the water supply if your
using resevors that are low laying...etc..

if your well is run on an electric pump your out of luck during
an eletrical outage also..so no faucet there either...

First off, I would like to commend sid for all of this information. Although it may not be useful in all parts of the world, it shows that he has concern for the general population. In New York, not many "disasters" happened. The most recent in my mind is when that huge power grid went down and took alot of the state with it. In Tennessee, one-inch of snow is enough to send most people into a panic, sometimes making the interstate into a parking lot. But, especially in the mid-west/west, many more disasters happen like tornados, earthquakes, etc. And since sid is from 'west USA', it's no wonder why he has this concern.

Secondly, I would hate to see another Linux Revolution-type flame war (sort of like the Evolution topic posted earlier). It's not what we need.
