I don't care who it happened to, it was certainly uncalled for.

This should never have happened. Period.

The Network54 support people have restored my account. I am still banned from the forums however.

I have been badgering N54 in their public Help forum about site ownership. I have also posted some Zip posts telling everybody how to do it sort of. Like rubbing it in N54's face!

Do they mean to tell me that they have NO records of Forum ownership? They surely have a list of owners and contacts! They would surely do something if our Forum was NOT paid for!

I also found a lot of Google post links stored in their cache for iorr5t.

The Main Forum is fully restored with IP addresses again. So is QB64.

Perhaps Zip has come to his senses. Time will tell. But it is a lot harder to restore things than destroy them.

I have located Zip at Arkansas City Kansas.

It won't be hard to trace IT from there! He could be in deep doo doo!

Presently the N54 site looks like it is being restored. That may take a while, but I cannot get in without a proxy.

He/she has a history of extreme arrogance, extreme ego (claiming to be a deity and demanding worship more than once), rude behavior, racist statements, posting/chatting while drunk, and deep animosity towards several other members/former members, including Mac. Zip was banned several days ago for repeatedly using obscenity and insulting members.

And completely unlike me. I have never demanded worship for my dietyhood. I command it. And my ego is shadow compared to my awesomeness. :D

From what others have told me, especially in a few forums she moderated it does sound like a Zip. But, Zire had a lot of better things to do, I would think, than loafing in a QB place. Either way they know their stuff code and hacking wise.

FB Nazi admins. chased Z!re away. I love tough women!

I guess some people have problems accepting this as a truth.

Sorry Z!re if I misspoke. I don't need any more problems, lol.

As for participating in FB, I was banned for life for posting stuff that FB people posted at our N54 site in the QB64 Forum. The attacks were unwarranted! Galleon never intended QB64 to be a FB clone. He is creating a compatable QBasic compiler for 32 or 64 bit machines. He also has started making a great IDE that tells you the status of your coding and points out mistakes.

Fortunately, I think, it has spurred more interest at FB to make it more compatable to QB code. I just gave up even trying to learn FB because of the administrators there. Face it! FB.COM wants to control most of the FB help and are banning the very people that may want to use it.

THEY DON'T CARE to forgive people with lifetime bans! So they lose.......

PS: One of those ignorant posters is right above this post, LOL

Since when did hobbies and programming for fun turn into competition against others?

EASY answer! Since one person started upgrading another person's code.

Thanks to that idea, coders have always tried to do the "impossible".

I am amazed at some of the stuff people have been able to do in QB. After almost 20 years, I can still do a lot more than one would think possible.

Competition is a FUNdimental way to create great programs. Lachies' game site is just one excellent example!

Well I suppose I phrased it wrong in that last post. I meant unfriendly competition.

Competition is good and essential but as long as it's friendly competition and not something like Saxons vs. Vikings.

I mean it's good to keep improving your code to compete but not so that people turn against each other and the sides split into cults and form a "religion" (i.e. Macs vs. PCs).

I do not know why there are so many fervent FB people. After all, FB was originally really a basic version that offered extra abilities. Now it seems that some of them have decided that QB is just a stupid way to program.

The challenge for me is to make working programs with a very basic coding language, but others saw FB as a better way to create programs and games. Fine with me!

The real threat to FB is nothing! But some of them see QB64 as an attempt to outdo FB. Perhaps it may in some respects as QB64 is being created by ONE person instead of a committee. Groups of people tend to push for more changes than might be necessary or wise. Even Galleon has been under pressure for compatability for Mac, Linux and other type OS's.

Thankfully Galleon has only added a few extra features that C enables him to use.

Aren't we veering off-topic here?
I would think so. Nowadays, I try to avoid QB/FB fights.

It seems that most of the deleted stuff is back, as of quite some time ago. I haven't checked again recently. (I have to use a proxy to check, as Zip banned IPs of people he realized wouldn't support his revolution.)

Isn't it odd that Zip tried to create his own reality? He tried to make it look like a legitimate takeover. He tried to get people to accept it by lying. When people wouldn't accept it, he would start deleting their posts and banning IPs. Then, in a few cases, he'd make counterfeit posts containing, I believe, what he would have liked the people to have said. He tried to create his own little reality when the true reality (people strongly resisting his takeover) was undesirable...

Oddly enough, looking through some of my chat transcripts, Zip seemed like a good person to have around. Zip was funny, friendly, and definitely very smart and very intelligent (when not drunk and spewing racism (besides the chat transcripts, several people can confirm that)). Too bad we couldn't have had the good without the bad. Zip's name will be associated with shame for a long time after this, despite his potential value to the community. Too bad he had to be such a punk.

Some of the restored posts reveal what led up to Zip's attack.

Regards, Michael

P.S. One of my edited posts in this thread shows that the post has been edited by me. Most, like this one, do not. That's odd. Or does that have to do with how long afterward the post was edited, or whether someone already replied?
During the height of this, I had a lot of invalid session errors when trying to post to this thread. That's not evidence Zip could have compromised this account, is it? (an elaborate "man in the middle" attack, perhaps?) I changed this password to a strong one right before that, but my previous password was, I'm pretty sure, the same as my old Network54 password. Maybe I should change it again... I'm probably worrying for nothing...

P.S. $$$ between Zip and Z!re seem to be pretty common, nor are they new... I don't know Zip very well, and Z!re even less well, but on average, I'd say Zip was usually friendlier.

"$$$" above should be C o m p a r i s o n s, but for some reason it doesn't display correctly.

I can load the RSS data from The QBASIC Forum without a proxy, but not access the forum itself? Weird.

How low can Zip get. Galleon copied Mac's memorial thread in case N54 could not be saved, but Zip had already altered my tribute to Mac before Galleon could copy it.
PS
The tribute has now been restored.
