OK Girls!

You sound like my daughter when she turned 12! OK guys? That sounds like my boss giving me a job to do! Knock it off! You are not my boss or my daughter and I noticed that THANKS is pretty hard for you to say. We can help, but we do not HAVE to! And make sure that you really need help by checking yo...

Yep

That is a problem with FB. It keeps changing and can require a lot of coding changes. That is one thing you will NEVER have to worry about in QB. Most QB users prefer it that way! It is a challenge to make things work with newer stuff. Presently a fellow named Galleon is working on a QB version that...

COM PORTS

COM ports read data, not usually pulses. Do you have an OPEN COM statement? QB can open only COM 1 or 2. Did you find the address from Windows Devices first? A COM port is capable of speeds up to 11,500 bytes per second on the data transmit and receive lines. You seem to be using the Modem Status Re...

Segregation

Thanks for the info on RLE bitmaps! I really don't see a problem with any programming language, but some are only interested in QB and some only want FB. Whatever! Yes, Mac would probably like you to come visit his site as it is one of the better sites for QB only. What is wrong with that? He comes ...

Are we still guessing?

The man said he finished it! GREAT! Perhaps I got him so mad that he did it himself. If that is what it takes, then I am proud of my efforts! All I was trying to do was light a flame under his butt. Mac, you ought to make one too. I know you could do it! And it would be done the right way too. Good ...

Mr Bad Box

Concerning your handle. I don't have a problem with it. I just wonder how you came up with it? I have never met a Bad Box yet LOL.

My handle is based on my last name. I have been called Burger for years!
And I ain't no kid sonny!

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

If you had given us ONE piece of code, perhaps we all would have helped! You actually gave us NOTHING to work with except that there are 3 boats! 1) How are the boats supposed to be made? 2) How are the boats shot at? 3) Who shoots who? 4) Where is one line of CODE from you? Under the circumstances,...

Sorry if I got carried away

I am just disappointed that he will not try a little harder! Programming isn't for everyone. But trying anything that is hard will make the person more able to deal with bigger problems down the road. Anybody can just throw up their hands and Quit! I have run into programming problems too! If I just...

Another one bites the dust! Try C or Cobal programming. It is a lot easier LOL. Thanks for giving up. Now you can look forward to being a Walmart stocker 24 hours a day! But they use computers too! If you really want to learn, come back. Telling a computer to do something is kinda neat. Once you get...

Makes sense! The record fields can be marked and overwritten in that case. To shorten the file is most likely a futile overature. You may have to add something to the file later! I hope you are NOT thinking like Bill Gates and the 640K limit in his garage. Windows hogs memory and the hard drive, so ...

286

A 286? Wow, you need something a little faster. Try it on a friends machine and good luck. My old lady tossed mine out when she tossed me out. Unfortunately, I did not end up in the same garbage bin!

I had a ton of good DOS games on that sucker!

That is NOT CODE! That is an outline of your freaking assignment! We don't write code for people that is homework and you seem like a smart ass anyhow! Well, ASCII is just text really and you can make a crude boat just using a forward slash and a backslash with some dashes between. That could be done without knowing any ASCII codes! Instead of all of this bantering and complaining about the teacher, you ought to start doing something. Your descript...

Mac is trying to tell you that some numbers such as 120 / 1500 will be represented as an exponent of the number in some cases. This is called scientific notation for an infinite or very long number, which no Qbasic program can do. To print the number to the screen in real terms, use PRINT USING and ...

Sorry kiddo

Most people will not do homework FOR you. Why? 1) Because your classmates outnumber you and they would probably beat the crap out of you if you got caught 2) You WILL get caught! Your teacher is no fool. 3) Many of us use much more advanced programming methods! Your program would be obvious to other...

Presently Danner and I are waiting for the parts to come in. I will update this thread when we finally get something running. I contemplate using the Control port 890 to drive the door latch relay using a 4N29 Opto-Isolator chip. I will supply that code later, if anybody is following this thread. We...

You did not mention what programming language, but QBasic can use PAINT. It requires an enclosed shape of one border color only.

PAINT(x, y), fillcolor, bordercolor

You also have to place the PAINT coordinates x and y inside of the shape.

True that you might be able to do it with the help of assembly code. I am sure there are other options too, but you specifically said "in Qbasic". I figure if you can do it in C, why bother doing it a harder way. Good luck on your project. Feel free to tell us of any new ideas you come up with! We a...
