help printing Qbasic file

Moneo: thanks for the offer. I was waiting to get a result from the local computer consultant before replying. The consultant, I believe, tried the same thing you are offering: the Qbasic datafile is compiled and he ran it through some kind of interpreter or text editor, to interpret it. But what ca...

Qbasic consultants?

The Awakened: yeah, that's what I hoped to try to do when I set the Windows print manager to "write to file". I don't know why it didn't work, but whatever... Thanks to all. At this point I'm going to take the floppy to a local PC consultant, who says "no charge if I can't recover the data". If he c...

Qbasic and printers

I tried setting my print manager to "generic/text....write to disk", then to open and print the print file from a word processor. No files are written using the print command in Qbasic. Yes, I could have googled on Freebasic....as I could have done for my previous questions. So why register and post...

Qbasic printing

No I can't print it from NotePad, it's a random file.

When I went to Pete's homepage and clicked on "freebasic" under "Learn Qbasic", the page says "coming soon".

Can anyone tell me where/how to get freebasic?

print Qbasic output by BubbleJet printer

I just got a new Canon iP4000 BJ printer....and can't print from Qbasic anymore. Canon support tells me it's because their (and all other) new
printers don't recognize DOS print manager.

My guess is that there must be a Windows version of Qbasic which would drive the printer. Any suggestions?

Really strange!

OK, over the weekend I tried some things and here's the current situation. The older datafile on my floppy disk works fine when I open it using Qbasic from my harddrive. That is, I start Qbasic on the harddrive, then tell the program to run the datafile "a:\xxx". Works fine. BUT WHEN I COPY IT USING...

Nekrophidius: I looked in Feldman and Rugg's manual "Using Quickbasic 4" and I don't see an advantage for binary over random files. Can I impose the same record structure on binary as for random? Ie, each of my records is a separate sample having up to 10 measurements: can I keep the measurements se...

OK, I ran Scandisk and had no errors or corrections. Steph: what does "lol" in your reply mean? All: I'll research the Read/Write access stuff for future reference. Most of the time I open this file, it's not to add to it or to modify it, only to operate on the numbers. So if I've been re-writing it...

Kevin: I'll try running Scandisk tonight, although have run it in the past(but not since problem appeared) without it fixing any shortcomings. Nekrophidius: yes, this is the sort of thing I vaguely felt might be happening. Do you know, when a random file is opened for printing (not editing), is it t...

Help! with corruption of random file

I'm using Qbasic with a copyright date of 1992 (a bit old). PC with Windows ME. Haven't had any problems with my Qbasic programs until recently. Problem is with some random-access files of numbers I've created. Typical file is 400 records long, each one consisting of 10 variables, most single-precis...
